Artists Comment: “St. Croix was the last stop on a week long cruise. My husband and I were walking back to the pier to board the ship, trying to soak in every last moment of our week away. As we were walking, I saw this pelican perched on the rusty crane. I stood and watched him preen a bit and then all of the sudden, he stopped and stood in an almost perfect profile, just long enough to snap this photo. After I took the picture, we continued walking back to the boat and never thought twice about it. I think that my favorite part of this photo is that it was completely unplanned and unintentional, but turned out beautifully.”
