AppLove is a CanvasPop blog series on the latest and greatest mobile photography apps, written by #twosisters Melissa Vincent and Ali Jardine. In this edition, Melissa explores the Filter Mania app to show you how to layer filters and have more photo fun.
Filter Mania is one of those apps that takes a little practice to get just right. Once you’ve played around with it for a while, you will find out how to create a “Wow!” photo with some of the amazing and unique filters. One of the great things about this app is how easy it is to navigate.
This is the Filter Mania home screen.
You can either add a photo from your library with the magnifying button on the left or take a photo using the middle orange camera button.
If you take the photo, there is the option of turning the camera around to face you or face outward using the camera button with the two rotating arrows.
Also, you can turn the flash on and off or put it on auto with the lightning bolt button.
Once you have the picture you’d like to work with uploaded into the application, you will notice the different filter options available at the bottom of the screen.
When you click on one of the filters, it will show you what your picture will look like with that filter added.
In this photo, I added the Hot Flash filter.
One great feature about this app is that you can add more than one filter on a photo without having to leave the app by pressing the +Filter button at the top left of the page.
If you want to delete the previous filter, you can click on the arrow at the top left of the screen to remove it. You can also cancel all filters by going to the beginning of the filters and clicking on the original button. This will cancel all changes and revert your photo back to the original.
At the end of the list of filters is a “more filters” button. This will take you to a list of categories such as nature elements, textures, themes, colors, frames, and much more.
There is also a “Pro” category you can unlock for an added fee. I personally think it’s worth it because it unlocks some great filters.
When I click on the New-Pro category, a list of filters comes up. The Colorsplash filter is the first one in the list. You can tell that I haven’t downloaded it to my main list of filters yet because it has a “download” button.
If this filter was already on the main page of filters, it would read “installed”. To add it to my list, I push download and it will then show up with the other filters for easy access.
When you are happy with the image you have created, push the next button at the top right-hand side of your screen. Here is a photo that explains your options when you hit next.
Look at this post’s header image for examples of photos I created using the Filter Mania app.
Have fun exploring all the endless possiblitlites that this app has to offer. Best of luck in your filtering adventures!
Now that you’ve whipped up some new creations, print your iPhone photos on canvas and display them for the world to see.
