With the cooler weather on its way, soon it won’t exactly be the most ideal season for spending a lot of time outdoors. Since the official last day of summer has already passed, we’ve come up with a few ways to help you bring the outdoors in (indoors that is!) Adding a few outdoor elements to your home will not only help create a more calming environment — it will also help fight off the winter blues!
Here are 5 tips we’ve come up with to help you get started on your “greener” home:
1. PLANT AN INDOOR GARDEN
Just because it isn’t gardening season anymore doesn’t mean you have to go without home-grown herbs or veggies! You don’t need a greenhouse or expensive equipment to keep those fresh peppers or basil coming all year round. Just be sure to reserve a spot for your plants where they’ll get plenty of sunlight.
2. SHOW OFF YOUR FAVORITE LANDSCAPE
Take a look back at some of your outdoor photos and pick a pretty landscape to turn in to a canvas print. Think sunsets on the beach, mountain ranges from that ski vacation, or even a cityscape! Hang the canvas art in your family room, or on your bedroom wall to create a bit of an escape from reality.
3. ADD SOME SMALL NATURAL TOUCHES
You don’t always have to make bold statements with your decor. Sometimes a little can go a long way! Why not add a few accents to your home that remind you of your favorite beach, or vacation spot? Fill a bowl with some colorful rocks, seashells or pinecones and place it on your coffee table. Adorn your bookshelf with a few decorative jars filled with beach sand. Gather some fallen branches to add to a vase, and place it in your favorite room.
4. USE COLORS INSPIRED BY NATURE
Decorate with colors that remind you of the great outdoors. Fill your couches with yellow, red or orange throw pillows to bring back memories of the leaves in autumn. Add some green accents to remind you of the trees in the spring. Paint your walls ocean blue, plum purple or eggshell cream.
5. ADD SOME FLORA TO YOUR WALLS
Take any great pictures of the changing trees, budding flowers or green foliage with your iPhone lately? Choose three or more of your best flora snapshots and have them turned in to eye-catching Instagram prints. Make them the focal point of the room and hang them together over a couch or bed.
