Marksta App Review

Mobile Monday is a weekly CanvasPop blog series featuring reviews on some of the coolest mobile photography apps available. Check back on Mondays for a new review!

In the age of the internet, and increasing obsessiveness with social media, protecting the rights to your photography is becoming more and more difficult. Photojournalist John D. McHugh in particular, noticed this issue with his own creative rights and decided to make it easier for photographers to protect their work before sharing it online. He realized that he could of course add watermarks to his photos in Photoshop, but he also wanted to make this an easily accessible task to the photographer on the go. During his efforts, McHugh ended up launching an app called Marksta, which allows users to conveniently watermark their photos directly on their iPhone.

With the app, you can add text, logos, copyright information, website addresses and really any other information you want seen on the photo before it is posted online where it could be easily downloaded and shared by others. McHugh stresses that the app was designed to be as user-friendly as possible, as opposed to other watermarking apps that were “created by developers, not photographers.”

It’s easy to get started with the app! You can either take a new photo, or load an existing one directly from your photo roll. Once you’ve chosen your photo, you can now customize your watermark. Upload an existing logo, add text, and adjust it’s position, size, color, font and opacity. You have the option to add the copyright symbol, or a customizable border as well. Save any template you’ve worked on in the app, for easy access later on. Finally, tap the “share” button to safely show off your photo via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr, Instagram or any other photo application you have loaded on your phone.

Marksta is available for just $1.99 on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. Check out the iTunes store for more details.
