Mobile Monday is a weekly CanvasPop blog series featuring reviews on some of the coolest mobile photography apps, or gear available. Check back on Mondays for a new review!
We absolutely love what the folks over at Tinrocket have come up with, in terms of iPhone apps! We’ve reviewed their fun app Percolator in the past, but have recently been playing around with another popular app of their’s — Popsicolor. The Pop-Art app offers you a fun, and easy way to transform your images into some very cool illustrations or watercolors.
Start by grabbing a photo from your camera roll, or snapping a new shot within the app itself. It’s important to try and find a photo with lots of contrasting elements, otherwise the colours won’t stand out as well. From here, you can really start to play around with the different features.
Once you have your image loaded and ready to go, you’ll notice two rows of multi-colored popsicles on the top and bottom of your screen. Toggle around with them to see what they have to offer. Essentially, they will alter the colors seen in your photo. Use the tools at the end of the bottom row to swap, or shuffle the colors around.
At the very bottom of your screen, click on the “sunglasses” icon to further customize your shot. A new row of options will pop up, allowing you to play around with the displacement of the color, texture and whitespace that the app is applying. The final icon you’ll notice at the bottom of your screen is the “bullseye”. Click here to choose your desired gradient — top and bottom, radial, novelty, mix, and many more.
Our one complaint about this app, would be the slow speed in which it applies the different filters to your images. It does make it a bit difficult to play around, and really understand what each option has to offer. Hopefully this is something they’ll be able to fix, as they roll out some more updates.
We really admire how well Tinrocket pays attention to theme with their apps, and how unique the user experience is! Purchase Popsicolor on iTunes here, for a charge of only $2.99. It’s compatible with your iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad with iOS 5.1 or later.
