You can alter almost any image on your iPhone, with the thousands of photography apps out there. So it comes as no surprise that there are some apps that allow you to easily add a faux-bokeh effect to your photos. This week we’re taking a look at one in particular — Bokehful by Active Development.
Begin by firing up the app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. Bokehful is available on iTunes for only $0.99, and takes seconds to download. Once you have it up and running, you’ll be redirected to the homescreen and can get started.
Grab a photo off your camera roll by clicking the green “open” button in the upper left hand corner of the screen. From here, you can begin adding a bokeh effect to your image simply by tapping different areas of the photo. Play around with different gradient options by clicking the color wheel in the bottom left hand corner. Try and pick a color scheme that matches your photo, so that the effect appears more natural.
If you really want to funk up your photo, play around with the different shapes available to your effect — circle, star, heart, and even polygon. Once you’re all done you can share your image by clicking the red “share” button in the upper right hand corner. Sharing options include Facebook, e-mail, Instagram, Twitter, and Flickr.
This app really appeals to us, mostly because of how easy it is to use. It’s straightforward, user friendly, and not over-crowded with too many editing options. There are so many apps out there that do just about everything in terms of photo editing, so it’s nice to simplify things for a change!
