A Picture on the Wall? Why Not Do the Whole Wall?

wall-art-New-york-times

While digital cameras have largely shoved aside film cameras, how we store and show off our snapshots has changed little since the heyday of Kodachrome. Overstuffed shoeboxes have simply been replaced with cluttered hard drives and Flickr streams, leatherbound albums supplanted by Facebook uploads.

Luckily, however, one perk of the digital age is the opportunity to use printing techniques and materials once reserved for professionals.

Some of these can take favorite photos and turn them into works of art that go beyond oversize prints, like custom wallpaper, murals and decals. The services cost more than the one-hour photo hut, but the results can be stunning.

STRETCHING ONTO CANVAS Some companies offer the option to create stretched canvas pictures. The effect is instant art, ready to be hung. CanvasPop.com specializes in taking everyday photos, including candids snapped with a camera phone, and blowing them up without losing detail. Company technicians work on each image to ensure that an iPhone photo looks as good stretched across four feet as it does on a 4.5-inch screen. Read More!

When you hear “What’s Up, Doc?”, who do you think of? That’s easy it’s Bugs Bunny!

A few weeks ago I had the chance to sit down and talk with Jessica Borutski, the artist selected to re-design the original cast of the Looney Tunes for the new Warner Brother’s show premiering this fall on the Cartoon Network…

This fall the Looney Tunes are back on the Cartoon Network, with 26 new half hour episodes with a fresh new look...

“The original Bugs and Daffy are beautiful designs that have been streamlined through the decades at Warner Brothers. So that was a tough one for me to figure out. I wanted to keep all the spirit of the characters without changing them dramatically.” Borutski.

Borutski gave them slightly different proportions that would emphasize things she had always liked about the characters. An example is Bugs’ feet, which were streamlined and made bigger.

Jessica turned to CanvasPop when she wanted to create a canvas picture for a special fan.

Can you spot the changes in this canvas picture?

Today’s customer spotlight section features the canvas pictures created by
Dan K from Maine.  Both of his canvas pictures turned out great, but are drastically
different in subject and style. Take a look at pictures and tell us what you think!

If you look closely you can actually see bullet holes on the passenger windshield pane.

Dan tells CanvasPop that the photo of this old truck was taken back in 2003 a
couple of miles from the house his wife grew up in. Her father was a retired potato
farmer from Frenchville, ME and this truck was used to haul potatoes back in the
50′s. It now sits on another potato farmer’s land just adjacent to his.

A Taste of Spring- The Vibrant colors are back... Well maybe not just yet!

There is not much to say in regards to a story behind this photo. Dan tells CanvasPop
that it is some sort of bush that flowers each spring in his  yard.  The colors are very
intense and I took a photo close up of some of the buds.
